Why I Choose Essential Oils Over Synthetic Fragrances

When I first started my business, I had a choice to make: should I use synthetic fragrance oils or natural essential oils? At first I chose the synthetic route - they’re cheaper, come in every scent imaginable, and pre-blended. But something about them never felt right for me or my brand.

I wanted to create something that felt closer to nature, something that could bring a real sense of calm and wellbeing into the home - and that’s where essential oils come in.

🌿 Nature in Its Purest Form

Essential oils are quite literally nature in a bottle. They’re extracted directly from plants either cold pressed or steam distilled - from bark, peel, flowers, leaves, and roots - capturing the true, living essence of that plant. (More on that here)

When you smell real orange essential oil, for example, it doesn’t just smell “orangey” - it smells like zest, sunshine, and warmth all at once. There’s a richness and authenticity that no synthetic version can quite match.

That connection to nature is what I wanted my products to reflect. I want them to feel grounding, gentle, and real.

✨ The Way They Make You Feel

Essential oils don’t just smell lovely - they can genuinely shift how you feel (read more on that here). Cinnamon and clove help you feel cosy and safe, orange brings a little lift to your mood, lavender soothes and relaxes… nature really does know what we need.

Synthetic fragrances can mimic these scents, but they don’t have the same emotional depth or holistic benefits. I love knowing that every batch I pour carries the natural properties of the plants themselves - it turns a simple wax melt into a little moment of aromatherapy.

Choosing essential oils also aligns with my values of simplicity and sustainability. They come from renewable natural sources, and I use them in moderation to ensure they’re sourced responsibly.

I also love that my home studio smells like a botanical garden when I pour - no harsh, chemical notes, just the soft, honest scent of plants. It’s better for me, better for you, and kinder to the environment.
